CV • N. 28-29-30 • GIOVEDÌ 11 LUGLIO 2013     •     THURSDAY, JULY 11, 2013 'Italian Holiday': from the movie to a Uno sguardo all' estate: L'ItaloAmericano alla dream come true ricerca di modi più attenti e creativi per coinvolgere i suoi lettori SIMONE SCHIAVINATO It happened even few hours before the ceremony: 166 Subsaharian and Eritrean men and women reached Lampedusa. On Italy's southernmost island the Pope "weeped for the dead", in the years maybe more than 20,000, casting a wreath of white and yellow flowers (the colors of the Catholic Church) into the sea to honor the many migrants who have perished during the perilous voyage aboard rickety peoplesmuggling boats. Then he met a delegation of them, muslims and catholics, who asked help to all Europe. In 1953 the movie depicted the "sweet Italian lifestyle" and attracted tourists from all over the world in Rome DATED MATERIAL - DO NOT DELAY Italy has remained a top tourism destination for visitors from across Europe, despite these long years of crisis. But it is also increasing the number of tourists coming from America, China and the Middle East. They still choose its unique concentration of art and monuments, museums and churches, history and culture, even before its wonderful seasides and enchanting mountains. Basil, mozzarella and tomato: the fresh and flavouros summer dish and the iconic ingredients of Italian cuisine and traditional pizza So that, in 2013, Rome is still a world top destination summing up centuries of architecture and delightful landmarks. According to worldwide travellers'choice the Italian capital is one of the best places in the five continents where to spend holidays. But choice is much more wider than you expect. Continued on page 21 Pope Francis commemorates dead migrants at Lampedusa It was the first apostolic trip to Italy of Pope Francis, since his election in March. To do it, the new pontiff chose a symbolic destination: Lampedusa, the main arrival point for illegal immigrants reaching southern Europe by sea. Likewise the hundreds of migrants that weekly disembark, with their load of hopes, on the Italian islet (more neighbor to the Tunisian coasts than to the Sicilians ones), the Pope arrived with a boat on the same dock that every day welcomes desperate African refugees fleeing war, violence, hunger and poverty, and surviving a trip at the mercy of waves and men's traffickers.
