Moreover, Matteo Renzi, 39, former mayor of Florence, leads the youngest Italian cabinet ever, with an average age of 47. The 16- strong team, half of them women (the parity between men and women is another first for the Italian executive), was sworn in by President Giorgio Napolitano and entered into the fullness of its powers. Ringing a little ceremonial bell, Renzi told his ministers: "Recess is over. I expect ministers to come up with concrete proposals and not ads". On the one hand, they had to integrate in a new society; on the other hand, they needed to stick together without losing L'Italo-Americano celebrates its 106th anniversary The ceremony of the bell: former Prime Minister Enrico Letta leaves the government to Matteo Renzi, the new Italian Premier The oath: Matteo Renzi with the President of Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano (Ph Laboratorio Chigi) The office of L'Italo-Americano in the early '30s. Cleto Baroni and his father in front SILVIA SIMONETTI their Italian identity. In 1908, Gabriello Spini, a native of Florence, founded L'Italo-Americano newspaper with the aim of helping preserve the Italian language and cultural heritage, and of providing infor- mation to the growing Italian American community of Los Angeles. His nephew Cleto Baroni suc- ceeded him as owner and editori- al director in 1933. The cultural and social value of the publica- tion constantly increased over the years and, in order to ensure continuity of service, in 1971 Cleto Baroni sold the paper to the Scalabrinians, a religious congregation whose mission was to "maintain the Catholic faith and practice among Italian emi- grants in the New World." Under the direction of the new editor Fr.
