THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2018 www.italoamericano.org 34 L'Italo-Americano ogy, and illustrated to us the central role the Museum has in Turin on a socio-cultural level. Particularly gratifying was the project NOT AN ARTIST - Toyboyz Edition, pre- sented during the Summer in col- laboration with the European In- stitute of Design in Milan, a collective exhibition on the artistic phenomenon of Toy Design ex- plored through the work of four distinguished personalities: Fidia Falaschetti, Joe Ledbetter / J.Led, Massimo Giacon and Simone Legno / Tokidoki. During the Fall, we inaugurated the annual Italian Language Week in the World and the Days of Con- temporaneity, with a special pre- sentation by Silvio Pietro Angori, CEO of the iconic Italian brand Pininfarina, to whom we gave the IIC Los Angeles Creativity Award for his role as an ambassador of Italian culture and excellence in the world. Cinema, food, fashion, tech- nology, culture, art: how did the perception of Italian excellences change in LA and what was the role of the IIC? In general, on the West Coast of America there is a perception of Italy very much linked to our ex- cellences, rather than to the stereo- types of the past. This is probably because the West Coast is mainly affected by most recent migrations of scientists, professionals and en- trepreneurs with high levels of ed- ucation. The role of the Institute is strategic to further promote our ex- cellence in all sectors, from art to entrepreneurship, from science to design. The IIC often works in close collaboration with the other en- tities of Sistema Italia, what events did you organize with them? The synergy of the Institute with all the parties of Sistema Italia produced a variety of important projects. For example, we pre- sented the Starring Europe and Cinema Italian Style film festivals with the Consulate General and the ICE Agency. This year, Cinema Italian Style brought to the Institute a tribute to the great actress Monica Vitti with the exhibition La Dolce Vitti designed by and organized with Luce Cinecittà . With ENIT and IACCW, we organized events promoting the territory of Apulia and Italian food and wine culture, during the Week of Italian Cui- sine. Any events already scheduled for 2019? We are very enthusiastic about our 2019 schedule. Beside the Ital- ian evening dedicated to the NBA champion Danilo Gallinari and the event Filming Italy, we are pleased to participate in the fourth edition of the Italian Perspective Series in March, an annual initiative by the Italian Department of Chapman University. A series of conferences another successful edition of Cin- ema Italian Style, presented by Luce Cinecittà and the American Cinematheque, in November. held by various experts will ana- lyze the relationship between Sci- ence and Culture. Among the guests, Professor Carlo Vecce of the University Federico II of Naples, who will intervene to talk about the figure of Leonardo Da Vinci, on the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of his death. Other important events will be ded- icated to Leonardo da Vinci in this important anniversary, including a conference organized by UCLA, several projections of the film Be- ing Leonardo da Vinci, written and performed by the playwright Mas- similiano Finazzer Flory, and the American premiere of the film In- side Leonardo. But 2019 will also celebrate Tintoretto, the great Veneto painter, in occasion of the 500th anniversary of his birth, and Pontormo, to whom the Getty Museum will dedicate the exhibit Pontormo: Miracolous Encoun- ters. In March, we will inaugurate a major exhibition dedicated to the Maison Battistoni, which combines the best Italian craftsmanship, fash- ion, design and entrepreneurship with great international success. In the field of literature, we will organize a meeting with the jour- nalist and writer Enrico Deaglio while, in that of theatre, the renowned company Societas Raf- faello Sanzio will present La Terra dei Lombrichi at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
