L'Italo-Americano THURS DAY, APRIL 11, 2013 PAGE 19 Italian Consul General and COMITES to Visit San Pedro, April 18 BeN PIAZZA The Italian Consul General of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles COMITES, along with the Harbor area Italian American organizing committee, have announced that a community wide meeting and seminar will take place in San Pedro this coming April 18, 2013 at the very welcoming auditorium facilities of Mary Star of the Sea Church located 870 W. 8th Street San Pedro. The meeting is scheduled to start promptly at 6:00PM with several important subjects to address. The first being the opportunity for Consul General of Italy, the Hon. Giuseppe Perrone, and the President of the COMITES Valerio Chiarotti to formally meet with the Harbor area and San Pedro Italian American Community. Secondly, for the local Los Angeles COMITES to address the Harbor area residents on its varied functions as well as its main role of serving and representing Italian citizens in the southwestern part of the United States. And thirdly, and most significantly, for the Italian consular staff to convey and inform the largest concentration of Italian Americans in Southern California on the numerous services offered by its office, as well as to entertain questions from the audience pertaining to specific issues, such as the numerous entitlements, pensions, etc., benefiting Italian citizens. Although COMITES is widely known to represent Italian citizens wherever they find themselves away from their home country, not many may recognize the fact that the organization acts as their local representatives to the world-wide organization known as Consiglio Generale degli Italiani allEstero and, through this entity, both to the Italian Parliament as well as the 6 parliamentary seats allocat- ed to Italian citizens living abroad. Additionally, and as further information to the readers, the Los Angeles COMITES, as originally envisaged by Italian legislation, and designed to extend legal rights and representation to Italian citizens living abroad, functions as the main intermediary between the thousands of Italian citizens living in the Los Angeles Consular circumscription, which includes not only Southern California but Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Locally, the current Board of COMITES members consists of a President (Valerio Chiarotti), a Vice President (Cynthia Catalino), a Secretary (Giampaolo Mancuso), a Treasurer (Marisa Antonini), and ten Counselors, (Nando Basile, Rosa Di Masi, Filippo Floridia, Mario Gerla, Ugo Mamolo, Duccio Mortillaro, Giovanni Parente, Ben Piazza, Giuseppe Sasso) all of whom have been either directly elected by past formal elections by eligible voters or co-opted from the community at large and representing Italian American orga- AngeloJ.DiFusco,CPA Tax preparation & planning Financial statements & accounting Financial planning & budgeting quickbooks professional advisor & small business consulting Lets team up to cut your taxes 25 years experience Parliamo italiano 818/248-9779 www.difusco.com nizations.
