Street cars are timeless,
perhaps a bit démodé to
the eyes of some. They are
n o t f a s t , b u t t h e y a r e
historic, precious, beauti-
ful. They do get crammed
though, so you often end
up having to abandon all
d r e a m s o f a p e r f e c t l y
r e l a x i n g t r i p a n d j u s t
accept someone's elbow in
t h e g u t s a n d t h e f e a r o f
not reaching the doors to
g e t o f f b e c a u s e o f t h e
crowd. But just one trip on
a n a l m o s t e m p t y t r a m
t h r o u g h t h e s t r e e t o f a
sleepy Turin or Milan is
w o r t h a l l t h e n o i s e y o u
may experience on them
for the rest of the week.
