When it comes to architecture, being Italian conservatives simply means preserving the ancient Italian ability to always evolve." This is how Gio Ponti, a master of Italian design in the world, interpreted -- with new words -- Italian creativity. He imagined whole city blocks lined with green trees, way before climate change was a thing; he built churches filled with light, with dematerialized façades and colorful floors; his buildings were slender and didn't only make cities lighter, but also offered an early answer to mass urbanization. He created furniture that was at once elegant and economical: homes had to be functional and spacious "without complications, neither inside, nor outside." In time his city, Milan, became the beating heart of design, a world-known symbol of italianità and of all those characteristics we a s s o c i a t e t o M a d e i n Italy: creative inspiration, quality, originality, know- h o w , i n n o v a t i o n , c r a f t s m a n s h i p , b e i n g cutting edge. Imagining an event of the Salone's magnitude, in a n o b j e c t i v e l y d i f f i c u l t situation such as the post pandemic, and to do it in such a way that it was not " l e s s p o w e r f u l , l e s s attractive, less ambitious and less eager to show the f u t u r e o f l i v i n g a n d furniture, " meant there was optimism. It meant organizers believed in the country's renaissance and readiness to start over.
