The new season is bringing in-person events across the bay, with some options to attend virtually too. T h e M u s e o I t a l o Americano reopened its d o o r s a f e w m o n t h s a g o , hosting a number of cultural and social gatherings for its members. Among others, the curation of Rhapsody, an exhibition that opened in March and will be available u n t i l t h e e n d o f A u g u s t . Three female artists have come together with their art- works, focusing on different t e c h n i q u e s a n d t o p i c s . Serena Bocchino, Kara M a r i a , a n d N o l a P a r d i Proll worked closely with Bianca Friundi, Curator of the exhibition, to ensure a unique experience for view- ers. Serena's lively and lyri- cal abstract painting, explor- ing music's lyricism, melody, and rhythm, comes along- side Nora's love of stone and nature's found objects in her imaginative multi-faceted sculpture. Additionally, on Friday, June 17th, Aperitivo c o n l ' A r t i s t a w i l l a l l o w e v e r y o n e t o m e e t w i t h Italian American artist Kara M a r i a f o r a c o n v e r s a t i o n about her paintings and how they reflect on Earth's biodi- versity crisis and the place of endangered animals in our increasingly unstable envi- ronment. Many during the pandem- ic have attended Cena & Telechat with other mem- b e r s o f t h e M u s e o . T h i s event is back on Monday, June 20th, with the perfect summer topic – what to do during free time. One of the few occasions to practice I t a l i a n a n d i m p r o v e t h e knowledge of the language, the "cena" will host only 10 people, and chances to prac- tice Italian are very high, even for the shyest people. R e a d i n g a n d w a t c h i n g will be the main activities p r o p o s e d b y t h e I t a l i a n C u l t u r a l I n s t i t u t e (IIC) in San Francisco these c o m i n g m o n t h s . J u n e i s P r i d e m o n t h a n d t h e I I C t e a m , t o g e t h e r w i t h t h e Italian Consulate General, will host the screening of the documentary LET'S KISS: Franco Grillini, Storia di u n a R i v o l u z i o n e G e n t i l e . Franco Grillini is known as one of Italy's most promi- nent and revered gay rights activists. A pedagogue and journalist, Grillini entered into politics in the 1970s and was first elected member of t h e I t a l i a n P a r l i a m e n t i n 2 0 0 1 , a n d r e - e l e c t e d i n 2 0 0 6 . H e h a s b e e n Honorary President of the g a y I t a l i a n o r g a n i z a t i o n , A r c i g a y , s i n c e 1 9 9 8 ; President since 1987 and S e c r e t a r y s i n c e 1 9 8 5 , i n which year he also helped to f o u n d t h e A s s o c i a t i o n . Alongside Mr Grillini, film d i r e c t o r F i l i p p o Vendemmiati will offer an open and candid conversa- tion on the history of the LGBTQ rights movement in I t a l y . T h e s c r e e n i n g w i l l happen on June 19th start- ing at 6 pm at the Italian C u l t u r a l I n s t i t u t e a t Sansome Street. Fare Cinema 2022 is taking place worldwide to promote the Italian movie i n d u s t r y w i t h f r e e o n l i n e c o n t e n t o n t h e p o r t a l c a l l e d i t a l i a n a a n d o n t h e M y M o v i e s p l a t f o r m . Fare Cinema is organized by t h e M i n i s t r y o f F o r e i g n Affairs through a collabora- t i o n w i t h t h e M i n i s t r y o f C u l t u r e , A N I C A , A g e n z i a I C E , C i n e c i t t à , I t a l y f o r M o v i e s , I t a l i a n F i l m Commissions, the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards, and La Biennale di Venezia. Between June 13th and J u n e 1 9 t h , F a r e C i n e m a includes different initiatives: Italian Renaissance; a series of conversations with film- m a k e r s r e p r e s e n t i n g t h e renewed focus on contempo- rary Italian film by interna- tional festivals and film crit- ics; Italian Screens, with the f i v e f i n a l i s t s i n t h e B e s t Short Film category for the 2 0 2 2 D a v i d d i D o n a t e l l o Awards; a tribute to Vittorio G a s s m a n , w i t h a s p e c i a l interview with Alessandro Gassman and the viewing of t h e d o c u m e n t a r y S o n o Gassman! Vittorio Re della Commedia; Pasolini 100, a s e r i e s o f o r i g i n a l v i d e o - introductions to Pasolini's films. T h e w a i t i s o v e r : Eataly opens to the public in San Jose on June 16th in a 45,000-square-foot space that includes a ground floor where to drink coffee and enjoy gelato; a floor full of Italian wine, and a top floor for grocery, cheese tasting, and restaurants with pasta d i s h e s , p i z z a , a n d m u c h m o r e . L o c a t e d i n s i d e t h e Westfield's Valley Fair mall in Santa Clara, the Bay Area store is the latest to open in North America and the 41st i n t h e w o r l d . E a t a l y f i r s t opened in November 2002 thanks to Oscar Farinetti. The idea of gathering high- quality food at sustainable and reasonable prices is a celebration of Italian biodi- versity, while bringing an opportunity to eat, shop, and learn. On June 17th and June 18th, pianist and compos- er Ludovico Einaudi got t w o s h o w s a s p a r t o f h i s Underwater Tour at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Einaudi trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, then started a career as a classical com- poser, later incorporating other styles and genres such as pop, rock, folk, and world m u s i c . H e c o m p o s e d t h e scores for many movies and television productions. In 2021, Einaudi had a series of eleven concerts immersed in the breathtaking scenery of n a t i o n a l p a r k s , n a t u r e r e s e r v e s , c r e e k s , v a l l e y s , lakes and pristine mountain meadows, reachable only on foot, at dawn, at dusk, and under starry skies. The lock- down, "with the world out- side quiet and silent," led to the new solo piano album, entitled Underwater, a fresh approach to music, in the flow of emotions, an inti- mate conversation, face to face, with the piano. W r i t e r a n d j o u r n a l i s t Enrico Deaglio will pre- s e n t h i s l a t e s t w o r k – Qualcuno Visse più a Lungo. L a F a v o l o s a P r o t e z i o n e d e l l ' U l t i m o P a d r i n o . T h e presentation, happening at Libreria Pino's new location ( 1 5 0 1 U n i o n S t r e e t , S a n Francisco) on June 22nd, will be held in Italian. For those who are looking f o r w a r d t o a f t e r - s u m m e r p l a n s , s a v e t h e d a t e f o r P A S O L I N I 1 0 0 - H o m a g e t o P i e r P a o l o Pasolini on the 100th year anniversary of his birth. The Castro Theater will welcome Italian movie lovers with a special homage to Pasolini, who pushed the boundaries of politics, art, and sexuality. C i n e c i t t a ' , t h e I t a l i a n Cultural Institute, Cinema Italia San Francisco, in col- laboration with Artistic Soul Association, will join forces f o r a f u l l d a y o f m o v i e s , starting at 10.30am until the l a s t s h o w a t 1 0 p m .
