The red-carpet gala brings together musi- cians, educators, and local families to support arts and academic enrichment pro- grams for underserved youth and seniors. We spoke with Kolesnikova about her journey from inter- national performer to founder of an educational organization, and about why Santa Clarita has become central to her work. Your career began as a classical pianist. How did that path lead to founding an educational organiza- tion? I began studying music at 6 and later moved from Kaza- khstan to the United States, where I earned a scholarship to Florida State University. After graduating, I toured internationally, performed for US troops overseas, and even- tually became the in-house pianist at the Polo Lounge of the Beverly Hills Hotel. While performing daily, I was also teaching piano to children in the community. That experience changed my direction. I realized my great- est satisfaction came not only from performing, but from helping young people discover music themselves. In 2010, together with my husband Alex Concas, who is Italian- born, we founded Oksana Management Group. What began as a music school grew into a broader educational pro- gram offering languages, aca- demics, and creative arts. Your partnership with your husband seems central to the project. How did that collaboration shape the organization? It has been foundational. Alex and I have been married for 26 years, and our partner- ship combines artistic vision with business leadership. His support helped transform my performance career into struc- tured educational programs. We share the same belief that culture and education should work together. Santa Clarita became an important place for us after we moved there in 2016. Families here strongly value both learn- ing and cultural activity, and the community welcomed our programs in schools and local organizations. Over time, those partnerships helped us grow and reach thousands of stu- dents. The upcoming April 11 event is a gala, but also a fundraiser. What is its pur- pose? The event is our way of giv- ing back to the community that supported us from the begin- ning. Strings of Light cele- brates the arts, but it also raises awareness and funding for edu- cational access. Through the Oksana Foundation, we pro- vide music, academic, and enrichment programs to chil- dren and seniors who might not otherwise have these opportunities. During the evening, beside the performances, we will rec- ognize local contributors, pre- sent new initiatives, and bring together educators, families, and business leaders who share the goal of supporting the underserved and those in need. What can attendees expect during the evening? We wanted to create an ele- gant but welcoming atmos- phere. Guests will walk a red carpet, enjoy live perfor- mances, and experience a can- dlelit concert. I will perform personally, and we will also feature GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Ardeshir Farah of Strunz & Farah and guitarist Luis Villegas. One highlight will be the unveiling of a unique instru- ment: a marble archtop guitar created by Italian luthier Mirko Borghino. It combines crafts- manship, music, and visual art, and it will be presented pub- licly for the first time that night. There will also be a VIP reception with hors d'oeuvres and a social gathering space so guests can connect with the artists and the foundation's supporters. L a m e m o r i a g h i a c c i a t a delle Alpi in Antartico A l B o s c o d e l l e Q u e r c e d i S e v e s o i l Marchio del Patrimonio europeo I l Bosco delle Querce, situato tra Seveso e Meda in provin- cia di Monza e Brianza, è stato insignito del "Marchio del Patrimonio Europeo 2025" dalla Commissione europea. L'area ambientale rappresenta un simbolo europeo di responsa- bilità e resilienza collettiva, in quanto realizzato sui terreni con- taminati dall'incidente industriale dell'Icmesa nel 1976. Quello che un tempo era un luogo di devasta- zione ecologica, come descritto nel panel di candidatura del Bosco delle Querce, oggi è stato trasformato in un parco naturale e in uno spazio della memoria. Il disastro di Seveso segnò una svolta nell'approccio europeo alla gestione del rischio industriale e alla tutela dell'ambiente. Contribuì direttamente alla nasci- ta della Direttiva Seveso, pilastro della legislazione europea in materia di sicurezza industriale e prevenzione degli incidenti rile- vanti. Il Bosco delle Querce rap- presenta dunque la trasformazio- ne di una tragedia in un patrimo- nio condiviso di apprendimento europeo, regolazione e consape- volezza ambientale. In quanto paesaggio rigenerato, si legge nelle motivazioni del riconosci- mento, il parco incarna la capacità dell'Europa di rispondere colletti- vamente alle crisi attraverso la scienza, le politiche pubbliche e l'impegno civico. E' un richiamo al fatto che la tutela dell'ambien- te, la salute pubblica e la sosteni- bilità sono centrali nella responsa- bilità comune e del futuro dell'Europa. Il Marchio è un'ini- ziativa che intende valorizzare il patrimonio culturale comune e migliorare la conoscenza recipro- ca fra i cittadini europei, contri- buendo a rafforzare il senso di appartenenza all'Unione e a pro- muovere il dialogo interculturale. Ad oggi, i siti italiani insigniti del Marchio sono: Museo Casa De Gasperi (Marchio nella sele- zione 2014); l'Area archeologica di Ostia antica (Marchio nella selezione 2019); Forte Cadine (Marchio nella selezione 2017); il comune di Ventotene (Marchio nella selezione 2021); il Parco Nazionale della Pace nel Comune di Sant'Anna di Stazzema (Marchio nella selezione 2023).
