L'Italo-Americano THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2013 www.italoamericano.com 19 San Diego Italian Film Festival Kicks Off 7th Season The San Diego Italian Film Festival welcomes you to its 7th season starting Saturday, October 19 through Saturday, November 2. This year's festival brings an exciting line up of fourteen extraordinary films loaded with culture and talent. Embracing the community through partnerships, the SDIFF has expanded venues to include Museum of Photographic Arts, the Center for Jewish Culture, San Diego Public Library, University of San Diego, Carlsbad Village Theatre located in North County and Adams Hall located in the college area. Besides the magnificent selection of films during its two week run, there is an exciting inclusion of live concert performances by Italian folk ensemble Khaossia performing two nights opening the festival's first night on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20. Also scheduled is a very special appearance by the Madrina, as she is known in Italy. The voluptuous Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta is an honored guest at a special gala featuring movie and party screening of a short film called Il Maestro (The Teacher) immediately followed by L'Imbroglio nel Lenzuolo (The Trick in the Sheet) scheduled on Saturday, October 26. This movie and party is sure to delight the senses as the event will take place at the new Central Library downtown on the 9th floor with fabulous views of the city and bay. Scene from the film "Mozzarella Stories" screening Oct 29 Also, a festival within a festival, the SDIFF unveils a new program called The Anita Laing Documentary Project dedicated to the late Anita Laing a past friend and member of the Board of Directors. Anita loved Italian culture and maintained a Schedule of Films & Events fierce passion for teaching young people. This two-day event presents a "Foreign at Home Documentary Program" which features migrated Italian directors who live and work outside of Italy perhaps representing a different perspective on Italian culture. Five films are scheduled between Sunday, October 27 and Monday, October 28. Day 1 features three movies at the Central Library Auditorium screening: Videocracy, L'argent raconté aux enfants et à leurs parents (The Value of Money Explained to the Young and their Parents), and Armando e la politica (Armando and Politics). Day 2 features two movies at the University of San Diego, Mother Rosalie Hall, Warren Auditorium screening: Ricordati di noi (Remember Us), and Caffé Italia. Both days will conclude with a roundtable discussion and answer period with Prof. Marco Bertozzi, Prof. Paul Tana, and Prof. Pasquale Verdicchio open to the public. Parking is free on Day 2 at USD.
