"It's our take on one of the world's oldest cookies," states Tiffany. "We hope to offer both sweet and savory pizzelle. We know there i s a l o t o f g o o d c o f f e e i n Portland, but we think our style and taste will set us apart." Visitors to Tired & Pour can expect delicious, smooth tasting coffee from a local roaster. The menu will include Italian sodas and cremosas, tea and weekly b a k e d s p e c i a l s , s u c h a s London's Meyer Lemon Bars, mini pies or Grandma's choco- late coffee cake. Opens Doors with Signature Old-World Cookie E v e r y C h r i s t m a s , T i f f a n y Lillebo's Nonna Angelina made pizzelle using a pizzelle iron t h a t h a d b e e n p a s s e d d o w n through the family for genera- tions. "They were always such a t r e a t , " s a y s T i f f a n y . " W e enjoyed them during the holi- days with Nonna but we also love to eat them year-round." W h e n h e r n o n n a p a s s e d away, the iron, as well as the original hand-written recipe, was handed down and it was now Tiffany's turn to carry on the family tradition. " E v e r y t i m e w e m a k e p i z z e l l e , w e t h i n k o f her. Maybe it's silly, but I feel her presence sometimes while cooking. She was a funny char- acter; I could almost hear her laughter the time I used more sugar than flour!" O r i g i n a l l y f r o m N o r t h e r n California, Tiffany and her hus- band, Erik have always wanted t o m o v e t o t h e P a c i f i c Northwest. Their first date ten years ago was spent "coffee shop hopping" and thus began the dream of opening their own shop. They fell in love with Portland; when a friend suggest- ed they give their venture a go in the Rose City, they made the move. "We are always looking for a deeper way to connect and make things beautiful; we are ready to share this with Portland. We also want to show our children that with patience and love, you can do anything!" Both Tiffany and Erik have a background in coffee. Tiffany's first job was as a barista. "No other job made me feel as ful- filled. I love the idea of being a g o o d p a r t o f s o m e o n e ' s day." They also have a desire to work for themselves. "If we're going to give it our all, why not do it while working together on something we love?" I n a p l a y o n w o r d s , t h e y named their cart the Tired & Pour Coffee Co. "We were both tired and poor - and tired of O n M o n d a y , M a y 4 t h , UNICO Portland will present " D o l c e L u n e d ì " ( S w e e t Monday), a fundraiser event at the First Covenant Church, 107 NE 45th Avenue in Portland. The evening begins at 7:00pm. T h i s i s a f a m i l y - f r i e n d l y event featuring live entertain- ment by UNICO members Beth Donnelly and Doug Feller of Jeremiah Productions, and John English, "The Voice of Frank Sinatra." A variety of Italian desserts, such as gelato, Italian coffees and soft drinks will be included. As well as providing deli- cious treats for the community, and being a part of the food cart c u l t u r e i n P o r t l a n d , T i r e d & Pour has a mission. "We love coffee, and unique foods," says Tiffany, "and our cart will sell great, locally roast- ed coffee and handmade baked g o o d s , i n c l u d i n g p i z z e l l e . However, we also want to give back to Portland for being so welcoming. In the future, if we attend events and festivals, Tired and Pour wants to donate a per- centage of event sales to a local charity. We have a few ideas on some drives for the needy this year. Eventually, they would like to expand their brand by offering catering services and opening up a storefront. A d d cooled, melted margarine and vanilla. Sift flour and baking p o w d e r , a n d t h e n a d d t o above. Cook on pizzelle iron. Enjoy!
