O c t o b e r i s Italian Heritage Month, with the traditional Parade t h a t c a m e b a c k t o t h e streets of North Beach on October 10th. People could enjoy the event in person, tasting Italian food while cheering and waving the Tricolore flags. A n d i t d o e s n o t s t o p here: the calendar is full of e v e n t s t o h o n o r a n d celebrate Italy, Italians, a n d I t a l i a n - A m e r i c a n s . T h e y a r e n o t - t o - m i s s events, and there's one for each interest or taste. On the occasion of the s p e c i a l e x h i b i t I t a l i a n - American icons: Mosaic P o r t r a i t s a t t h e MarinMOCA, the Italian Cultural Institute hosted a webinar on the History Of Mosaic Art In Friuli, w i t h G u g l i e l m o Z a n e t t e a n d D e n i s e T o s o n . M r . Zanette, a film director, an architect and a designer, g r a d u a t e d f r o m t h e prestigious Politecnico di Milano, and Mrs. Toson, who graduated from the S c u o l a M o s a i c i s t i d e l Friuli and is now an artist i n r e s i d e n c e o f MarinMOCA, talked about this collection of mosaic portraits highlighting the s k i l l a n d a r t i s t r y o f e m e r g i n g a r t i s t s . A c e l e b r a t i o n o f c u l t u r a l a f f i n i t i e s o f M a r i n County's Italian heritage, s h o w c a s i n g t w e n t y - t w o mosaic portraits of Italian- American cultural icons of our age, it is presented by M a r i n M O C A i n c o l l a b o r a t i o n w i t h Associazione Naonis and the Italian Film Festival, under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute of S a n F r a n c i s c o u n t i l November 7th in Novato. Longtime Director Lido C a n t a r u t t i w e l c o m e d everyone back to Marin for t h e 4 4 t h e d i t i o n o f t h e I t a l i a n F i l m F e s t i v a l o f M a r i n C o u n t y . T h i s i s a s p e c i a l y e a r f o r M r . Cantarutti who worked as a n I t a l i a n c u l t u r a l c o n s u l t a n t t o t h e P i x a r Animation Studio's 2021 feature film Luca. Under h i s d i r e c t i o n , t h e f i l m p r o g r a m h a s i n c l u d e d appearances from Italian f i l m d i r e c t o r s a n d composers, dignitaries of t h e I t a l i a n a n d I t a l i a n - A m e r i c a n c o m m u n i t i e s , a n d a n a u t h e n t i c a l l y I t a l i a n a t m o s p h e r e a t every presentation. For six S a t u r d a y s i n a r o w , t h e f e s t i v a l b r i n g s I t a l i a n dramas and comedies to t h e I t a l i a n - A m e r i c a n a u d i e n c e i n t h e h i s t o r i c A n g e l i c o H a l l o n t h e c a m p u s o f D o m i n i c a n University in San Rafael. Another round of save- the-date goes to the 21st a n n u a l W e e k o f t h e Italian Language in the W o r l d , w i t h e v e n t s organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco. Dante Plus 700 USA is a c o l l e c t i v e e x h i b i t i o n s h o w c a s i n g t h e w o r k o f 1 5 0 g r a p h i c a n d s t r e e t a r t i s t s , f e a t u r i n g i n s t a l l a t i o n s , p e r f o r m a n c e s a n d a u g m e n t e d r e a l i t y . A n online show presented by t h e I t a l i a n C u l t u r a l Institutes in the US as part of the official celebrations f o r D a n t e ' s 7 0 0 t h a n n i v e r s a r y . I t a l i a n literature gets the spotlight o n O c t o b e r 1 9 t h w i t h a conversation with author G i a n r i c o C a r o f i g l i o p r e s e n t i n g t h e E n g l i s h edition of his novel Le Tre del Mattino, during an online tour coordinated by t h e I I C L o s A n g e l e s i n collaboration with the IIC San Francisco. A n I t a l i a n P o e t r y Contest is coming as an opportunity to recognize budding Italian writers. Organized by Fondazione I t a l i a , i n c o l l a b o r a t i o n w i t h t h e C o n s u l a t e G e n e r a l o f I t a l y i n L o s Angeles & San Francisco a n d t h e I t a l i a n C u l t u r a l Institute of Los Angeles & S a n F r a n c i s c o , a l l K - 1 2 students can participate in a contest to showcase their creativity and connection to the Italian language. G o i n g i n t o a r t s , a n u m b e r o f e x h i b i t s a l s o o p e n i n O c t o b e r a n d N o v e m b e r : t h e M u s e o Italo-Americano kicks off an exhibit on October 22nd until February 2022 t o h o n o r G i a n c a r l o a n d G i o v a n n i C e r r i . T h e perfect opportunity to get t o k n o w t w o d i f f e r e n t M i l a n e s e a r t i s t s , f a t h e r and son, in their themes and expressive language. A t t h e b e g i n n i n g o f November, the Legion of Honor will also host two art experts, Furio Rinaldi and Laura Da Rin Bettina, for some virtual events to learn all about the current exhibit Color into Line: P a s t e l s f r o m t h e R e n a i s s a n c e t o t h e Present. T h e l o v e f o r f o o d a n d traditions does not stop with the new season, on t h e o t h e r h a n d w i t h t h e H o l i d a y s a p p r o a c h i n g , l e a r n i n g h o w t o c o o k Italian is a must.
