L'Italo-Americano PAGE 18 THURS DAY, AUGUS T 15, 2013 ICS to Honor SF Opera Director Maestro Nicola Luisotti Celebrating their 97th Anniversary, Italian Community Services will be honoring Maestro Luisotti at their annual dinner in October. The event will be held once again at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, on Sunday evening, October 27, 2013. Cocktails will begin at 6:00 p.m., and dinner will follow at 7:00 p.m. In the past decade, Maestro Luisotti has received enormous critical acclaim for performances with many of the world's most respected opera companies and orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, Paris Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, and nearly all the major houses in Germany. In his native Italy, Maestro Luisotti has worked with La Scala, La Fenice, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and Teatro Carlo Felice, in addition to leading the Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI. Maestro Luisotti is presently Music Director at the Teatro di San Carlo Opera House in Naples, and was instrumental in plans to bring the San Carlo Opera to San Francisco for the performance of Verdi Requiem on October 25th, uniting the two bays. Italian Community Services has been a trusted resource for nearly one hundred years, and continues to build on the legacy of community, culture, education and service. The Foundation is a tax exempt non profit organization whose sole purpose is to rise funds in order to support their scholarship program. This year with the help of the Peter and Paula Uccelli Foundation, the Stephen Sanguinetti family and the many members of the Peninsula Italian American Social Club, the Foundation was able to offer scholarships to the following graduates. All scholarship recipients were invited to attend the Peninsula Italian American Social Clubs June Membership meeting in order to be introduced to club members. Each recipient was presented a certificate acknowledging their achievement and given the opportunity to thank the membership for their support. It was wonderful meeting all of the scholarship winners and their families. This was a special group and both the foundation and the P.I.A.S.C. membership should be proud to be able to have helped support them in their quest for future achievements.
